Florida personal injury lawyers are apparently racing to file lawsuits before a new statute becomes effective that toughens requirements for filing claims under Florida’s no-fault auto insurance law, one insurer reported. The activity is no surprise to one insurance trade group, which said there were predictions such activity might occur. News of the increase in filings was announced today by Edward J. Lawson, president and chief executive officer of 21st Century Holding Company, the Plantation, Fla.- based parent of Federated National Insurance Company, an auto insurer. Mr. Lawson reported that his company recently began seeing an increase in the number of lawsuits being filed with respect to non-standard auto insurance claims in Florida.
